Program Note
Some women opt for foot cream over hand cream to soothe their callused palms, reminiscent of the heels of their feet. These amateur pole dancers engage in a daily ritual of scrutinizing each other's form, adjusting direction and speed to perfect their challenging maneuvers. The documentary, Wonderpol, delves into the camaraderie and unwavering dedication of three women, who secretly endure injuries while persevering in their training, shielded from their families. Meanwhile, the camera quietly dismantles societal perceptions surrounding pole dancing, infusing familiar pop songs with a newfound freshness through unfamiliar movements. (Nam Sunwoo)
